Does the Blackberry Storm live up to the hype?

The Blackberry Storm has been hyped but not yet released in Canada. I’ve been interested to read the reviews out so far and there seems to be mixed feelings on this handset. It is the first touch screen device for RIM and is their challenge to the Apple iPhone. I believe one of the differences between the bb storm and the iphone is the camera.  The storm comes in with 3.2 mp and full video capabilities while the iphone does not have video.  Regardless, it looks like there are many strong opinions out there that feel the storm was rushed out too soon with existing bugs that make it a poor experience overall.

Here is one review on the MoMo Forums:

ChrisMoPhone writes:

“I have recently upgraded from Curve to Storm and the experience has been devastating so far, partly because of the immature firmware. As far as the clickable screen is concerned, I was expecting more (also in terms of quality of the components), but it is possible to get used to it. The clickable screen is surprisingly useful for navigating through lists and menus as every choice has to be confirmed by a click - no wrong menu selection by accident. But this is also the biggest drawback - it is effectively a 2 step process, touch and click, which makes fast typing absolutely impossible. I was quite used to taking meeting notes with a Blackberry - that’s simply not an option with the Storm… It really needs an additional keyboard. Hope this helps.”

That’s a bit disappointing to hear but I will hold my decision until I have had the opportunity to play with it myself.
